Leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of soft tissue cancer. When it occurs in the inferior vena cava (IVC), it becomes even rarer, with only a few hundred cases reported worldwide.
This case report describes a successful laparoscopic removal of a leiomyosarcoma from the IVC. The tumor was excised using vascular staplers to close the blood vessel without compromising its function.
This case demonstrates that laparoscopic surgery may be a feasible option for removing certain types of exophytic (outward-growing) IVC tumors.
